SCHENECTADY, NY--Three players from Sacred Heart University each netted two goals to lead the Pioneers, 8-5 over Siena College on Tuesday evening at Frank Bailey Field at Union College. The Saints fall to 4-5 (1-0 MAAC), while the Pioneers improve to 6-4 (2-2 NEC).

The first half proved to be balanced as both teams scored. Siena jumped out to an early 2-0 lead to begin with a goal by sophomore Christina Pampalone and Amy Schoonmaker. Pampalone caught a pass at the 25-yard line and cradled down for the teams first goal at 27:17 off an assist from Michelle Eide.

The Pioneers struck back with a 4-0 run started by sophomore Brianna Bubeck off an assist from teammate Natalie Smith. Senior JoAnn Montesarchio scored twice in the run, as the Pioneers sprinted to a 4-2 lead.

Schoonmaker struck again for the Saints in what would before the Pioneers rallied three straight goals to take a commanding 7-3 lead with 5:56 left to play. Four minutes, Pampalone scored in what would be the last time the Saints would see the back of the net in the first half as the Pioneers had a 7-4 lead.

Pampalone added her second goal just before half and then scored the Saint's only goal in the second half to get Siena to within 7-5. Harris put the game away with her second goal of the night with 6:48 left to send SHU home with an 8-5 victory.

Saints goalie Bethany Zimmer earned eight saves in the loss, while Maggie Brauer totaled 13.

Next up for Siena, is MAAC foe Marist, Saturday, April 9 at 11 a.m. Permitting weather conditions, the Saints will play on their home field.
