LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Monmouth scored 10 unanswered goals as the Hawks defeated Siena Women's Lacrosse 16-9 in the MAAC opener for both programs. Erin Mossop and Alyssa Treanor paced the Saints with three points apiece.
Opening its 18th MAAC season, Siena (2-8, 0-1) reclaimed a 4-3 lead in a back and forth first 12 minutes on freshman Cara McQuillan's 10th goal of the season. But Monmouth (4-5, 1-0) would score the final six goals of the half to take a 9-4 lead at the break and ultimately reel off 10 straight goals to win their MAAC debut. The Hawks held the Saints scoreless for nearly 33 minutes.
Treanor scored two goals as did freshman Maddie Devine for the Saints which have dropped three straight. The Hawks held the MAAC's leading scorer Sarah Croutier scoreless for just the second time in her career.
Allison Strathius led all scorers with six points, dishing out five assists for Monmouth which won the Northeast Conference Championship in each of the program's final two seasons in the league. Stephanie Anderson and Danielle Rakowitz each added hat tricks off the bench for the Hawks.
