Fast Start Pushes Stags Past Saints

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Women's Lacrosse opened up MAAC Play with a 19-5 loss to Fairfield at Siena Turf Field. The Stags put up 12 goals in the first half to propel Fairfield to victory.

Brenna Connolly led all scorers with seven points coming off of three goals and four assists. Riley Hellstein led the Stags (4-4, 1-0 MAAC) with four goals, while Scarlett Sulliman and Alex Fehmel both recorded hat tricks.

Julia Sardella led the Saints (1-7, 0-1 MAAC) with two goals. Alexis Deaken, Michelle Schwartz and Annie Brennan all scored a goal for Siena.

Within the first five minutes of play, Fairfield led the Saints 4-0. Sardella recorded her first goal of the game off a free position shot with 23:38 left in the half. Just 16 seconds later, Sardella struck against and the Saints trailed 4-2. At the end of the first half, Siena trailed 12-5.

Fairfield would hold the Saints scoreless in the second half. The Stags put up seven goals of their own to take the victory 19-5.

Siena remains in the Capital District as they host Dartmouth on Wednesday, Mar. 29 at 4 p.m.
