The Siena women's lacrosse team defeated Binghamton University, 15-9, at Union College tonight behind a six-goal, three assist effort from junior Stephanie Petruccelli (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa). With the win the Saints improve to 2-1 overall while the Bearcats fall to 0-1.
Petrucelli and Gina Purpura combined to score the first six goals for the Saints as Siena took a 6-4 advantage with 10:43 left in the first half. Each team managed one more tally before the break for a 7-6 halftime score in favor of the Green and Gold.
Siena scored two quick goals in the second, both courtesy of Caitlin Doherty (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Lakeland) before the Bearcats answered with two of their own to pull back to within one. The Saints went on to put away six more tallies while Binghamton found the back of the net just one time to claim the 15-9 victory.
Seven different Saints scored on the evening. Purpura finished with three goals and two assists while Doherty added two goals for the Green and Gold.
Ashley Cincota led the Bearcats with four goals and one assist and Lauren Wetherell was the only multiple-goal scorer with three on the night.
