Stony Brook Rallies From Early Deficit to Beat Siena

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Three Stony Brook players combined for 10 goals as the Seawolves rallied to beat Siena 13-9 in women's lacrosse action Thursday afternoon at Union College. With the win, Stony Brook improved to 3-2 while Siena's record evened at 1-1.

The Saints started quickly, jumping out to a 4-1 lead 20 minutes into the game. Dana Sherrer (Floral Park, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) had two goals and an assist in the run while Stephanie Petruccelli (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) had a goal and an assist in the stretch.

The Seawolves battled back, scoring six of the game's next seven goals to take a 7-5 lead. Marrisa Trachtenberg scored three of her four goals in the run that gave Stony Brook control. After taking a 7-6 lead into the half, Stony Brook scored the first two goals of the second half and Siena never pulled closer than two the rest of the game.

In addition to Trachtenberg's four goals, Stephanie DeGennaro and Danielle Werner each added three goals and two assists.

Petruccelli finished with four goals and an assist, giving her 14 points in two games this season. Sherrer, celebrating her 21st birthday, added two goals and two assists. Caitlin Doherty (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Lakeland) scored twice as well for the Saints.

Siena returns to action on Sunday when it hosts Binghamton. Game time at Union College is set for 6:00 p.m.
