Six different goal scorers was not enough to push Siena Women’s Lacrosse past St. Bonaventure who took the game 18-13. The Bonnies last defeated the Saints in 2013.
LeighAnn Stauffer led all scorers with seven points off of four goals and three assists for St. Bonaventure (2-4). Mary Maestri recorded four goals for the Bonnies, while both Taylor Fallon and Rylee Arnold both notched hat-tricks.
Michelle Schwartz led all Siena (1-5) scorers with six points coming off four goals and two assists. Lauren Anglim recorded a hat-trick with three goals, while both Alexis Deaken and Briana Sirianni notched two goals.
St. Bonaventure got things started quickly by scoring the first three goals of the game. Sirianni and Anglim scored back-to-back goals for the Saints to put Siena down just 3-2. The two teams fought for take the lead and exchanged goals back and forth. Anglim tied the contest 7-7 with just under five minutes left in the first half. The Bonnies struck just before the half to take a slight 8-7 lead.
In the second half, St. Bonaventure and took a 15-9 lead with just under 16 minutes left to play. The Saints fought hard and scored on three free position shots in the final 15 minutes in the game, but the Bonnies would hang on and take the victory 18-13.
Schwartz picked up five ground balls, had two draw controls and caused two turnovers. Sammy Horton had seven saves for the Saints.
The Saints remain on the road as they head to Smithfield, Rhode Island to take on Bryant on Wednesday, Mar. 22. Game is set for 7 p.m.
