Stephanie Petruccelli netted six goals and added three assists to lead the Saints to a 20-4 season opening win over Saint Francis (Pa.) at Union College in Schenectady, N.Y. With the win the Saints start 2003 off at 1-0 while the Red Flash drop to 0-1.
Siena scored ten goals, while holding St. Francis scoreless, to take a 10-0 advantage at the half. Petruccelli scored four of her six goals in the first period.
The Red Flash finally got on the board a minute into the second half on a goal by Meghan McNamara. The two teams then traded goals, making the score 13-3, before Siena put away seven more second-half goals while holding St. Francis to just one to take the 20-4 victory.
Nine different Saints scored with Petruccelli leading the way. Joan Paul recorded three goals on the afternoon while Isabel Ohanian, Dana Sherrer, Caitlin Doherty and Karla Gudgel managed two apiece.
Mary-Elizabeth Dupelle had six saves for the Saints while Annie Sidorenko made seven stops in the cage for the Red Flash.
Katy Green led the Red Flash, scoring two goals.
Siena will next be in action this Thursday, March 20 as they host Stonybrook at Union College. Game-time is set for 4:00 p.m.
