Monmouth Races Past Siena 12-5

Monmouth out-scored Siena 7-1 in the first half and coasted home to a 12-5 non-league win in West Long Branch, N.J. Saturday. Senior Katie Maguire scored two of Siena's five goals.

Siena (1-5) was held scoreless for the first 26 minutes of game action before freshman Lauren Smith broke through with 4:08 left in the first half.

Freshman Marial Pierce, sophomore Meaghan Hess and junior Kaleigh Gibbons each scored a pair of goals in the first half for Monmouth (1-5), and senior Erica Abendschoen added a tally to account for the Hawks' six-goal first half cushion.

Monmouth goalie Katie Donohoe had eight saves in picking up her first victory of the season.

Siena scored three of the first four goals in the second half to close within 8-4, but could get no closer. Maguire, Alyssa Treanor and Maggie Deloria each found the back of the cage during Siena's run. Monmouth scored three straight times after Deloria's tally to put the game on ice.

Gibbons, Pierce and Hess each scored three goals for Monmouth.

Ashley Holdridge and Danielle DeLisio split time in the cage for the Saints. DeLisio made four saves and allowed five goals in the second half.

Siena continues its five-game road trip next Saturday at St. Bonaventure.
