Despite scoring 10 goals in the second half, Siena Women's Lacrosse was unable to push past Army West Point as the Cadets took a 17-16 overtime win in West Point, New York.
Alexis Deaken led Siena (0-3) with seven points coming from four goals and three assists. She also recorded five draw controls and went two-for-two on her free position shots. Julia Sardella recorded five points on a hat-trick and two assists. Kerry Gerety tallied her second straight hat-trick, while Julia Pelcher and Annie Brennan added two goals apiece.
Amy Johnston tallied five points on five goals, while she also recorded eight draw controls. Maddie Miller dished out three assists and added a goal for four points for Army (4-2).
Army recorded the first seven goals of the game to lead 7-0 with 15:33 left in the first half. Siena responded and registered the next four goals to trail just 7-4 with goals by four different Saints. Army led 9-5 with just under two minutes remaining off a free position shot, but Pelcher tallied her second goal of the game with 10 seconds remaining in the first half to put Siena down 9-6.
The Cadets again opened up the scoring in the second frame and took a 12-6 lead, but Siena would battle the two teams would exchange goals before Army took a 13-8 lead. Siena then scored five unanswered goals and tied the game at 13. After a Cadet goal, Siena added three to the goal column to take their first lead of the game 16-14 with 8:28 to play in regulation. Army scored twice in a minute span to tie the game at 16 where both teams would be left scoreless in the final five minutes to force overtime.
With just under 90 seconds remaining in overtime, Army was able to put it away and take the victory with a goal from Samantha Stewart, who had scored the Cadets final goal in regulation to force overtime.
Siena will host LIU Brooklyn on Tuesday, March 6 at 3 p.m. at Siena Turf Field.
