LOUDONVILLE, NY - Siena Women’s Lacrosse drops their season opener to Colgate 16-6 on Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore midfielder Alexis Deaken tallied a hat-trick for the Saints.
Deaken tallied three goals on seven shots for Siena (0-1). She also tallied a ground ball, a draw control and a caused turnovers. Julia Sardella notched two points with one goal and one assist. Kerry Gerety and Kiera Young both added a goal.
Tara Atkinson led Colgate (2-0) with five points coming off of four goals. Haley O’Hanlon also scored four goals, while Payton Gabriel added three goals and one assist for four points. Four other Raiders scored in the game.
Colgate opening up scoring right to start the game with their first goal from Alissa Mansini at 28:01. The Raiders scored five more unanswered goals to lead 6-0 with just under 15 minutes left in the first half. Deaken tallied her first goal of the game wish a dish at the top from Sardella. Colgate would respond and lead 9-1 at the half.
The Raiders went up 10-1 early in the second half, but Sardella would respond with an unassisted goal. Siena scored six goals in the second half with two off of free-position shots, but Colgate would tally nine goals of their own in the frame and take the victory 16-6.
Siena will head on the road to take on Vermont on Wednesday, February 28. Gametime is set for 2 p.m.
