March 17, 2012
PORT ST. LUCIE, FLA. - Clear skies, beautiful weather, and high-quality golf were all par for the course once again Saturday for the second round of the Homewood Suites Siena Invitational at PGA Village. The Siena men wound up sixth, while the women improved to fourth.
The men's side was led by senior Justin Deitz, whose second-round 72 tied for the second-best round of the day at PGA Village's Dye course. He tied for 11th with junior Jess Esposito, who slept on a first-round lead and signed for an 81. Additionally, junior John Van Vranken surged up the leaderboard with a 73 on Saturday, and finished 29th.
The Siena women were paced by Cortney Tilley, whose second-round 76, the fourth-best round of the day on the Wanamaker course, put her tied for fifth. Kylie Strijek's 80 put her in sole possession of 11th, while a second consecutive 82 from Julie Juchno tied the steady senior for 13th place.
William Woods won the team title on the men's side, and that school also took home the individual title, with J.D. Nash winning a three-man playoff with a par on the second extra hole. Meanwhile, Indianapolis's Jenny Konop won the women's individual title by six shots over Seton Hall's McKenzie Cutter, but the Pirates did win the team title in a runaway after four team members finished tied for seventh or better.
The Siena men will next be in action at the La Salle Invitational, which begins on March 25. Meanwhile, the women will next tee it up at the Richmond Spider Spring Invitational on March 26.
