After 18 holes at the RMU Colonial Classic, the Siena women's golf team stands just one stroke behind current leader and host Robert Morris. The Saints were led by two top-five finishers with Victoria Nguyen and Kylie Strijek both performing well in the first round.
Nguyen finished six strokes over par and is currently only three strokes behind individual leader Jenna Rinker of Robert Morris. Nguyen also led the field in par putts finishing with 14. Strijek, who had a strong first month, continued her successful start finished the first round fourth overall only one stroke behind her teammate.
Senior Cortney Tilley also finished in the top-ten with a total score of 83 in the 72-par course. Every Siena player finished in the top-20 with Mary Fletcher ending the round in 12th and Katie Nelson completing first day play 19th overall.
The RMU Colonial Classic is comprised of five teams, and Siena is currently in second, one stroke behind the leader and 13 strokes against MAAC foe Niagara. This is the closest that the squad has been towards the leader after the first round of competition this year.
The Saints will begin the final 18 holes tomorrow with tee time starting at 9:30 a.m.
