Strong Finishes Help Women's Golf to Fifth Place
Sept. 29, 2012
Kylie Strijek and Victoria Nguyen finished the second round with a 75, the third best score in the field, but it was not enough as the Siena women’s golf team finished fifth in the ECAC Championships in New Jersey. The squad jumped only one position from the first day for their fifth place finish.
The Green and Gold were led by Kylie Strijek who shot a 75, three strokes better than round one. Her 36-hole score of 153 was good to finish fifth out of the 53 player field, and only two strokes behind the individual champion. The biggest improvement goes to Victoria Nguyen who also finished with a second round score of 75, which was eight shots better than yesterday. She would complete the tournament tied for 12th place. Cortney Tilley would also finish in the top-20 going into the clubhouse with a total of 162.
Siena was only 11 shots behind eventual team champion Boston University and Strijek finished two strokes behind individual winners Olivia Chang of Pennsylvania and Sarah Knapp of Dartmouth. Siena bested crosstown rivals UAlbany by over 60 strokes and missed fourth place by only four.
The women’s golf team will next compete at the RMU Colonial Classic, which starts Oct. 8.
