September 23, 2017 is a day which will forever go down in Siena Women’s Golf history. The Saints established a new program record low round score of 301 and junior Sara Riso tied the program individual low round record of 70 at the First Round of the Dartmouth Invitational in Hanover, New Hampshire.
Siena stands fourth overall through the first 18 of 36 holes. Quinnipiac leads the MAAC-heavy field following a First Round score of 290, while UAlbany is nine strokes off the pace, host Dartmouth is 10 back, and the Saints are 11 shots off the lead.
Siena’s First Round team score of 301 bested the previous program of 304 set at the First Round of the Hartford Invitational on Apr. 16, 2012. Siena would go on to win that event.
Meanwhile Riso’s round of 70 tied Laura Woolgar ’07 for the lowest individual round in program history. Ironically, Woolgar also shot 70 at the First Round of this same event on Sept. 16, 2006.
Riso currently stands third overall individually, trailing Luciana Tobia of the Bobcats who holds the clubhouse lead after shooting a 7-under 65 on the opening 18. Freshman Abigail Chai-Onn also had an impressive showing for the Saints, shooting a round of 73 to stand tied for eighth overall.
The Saints will look to build upon their record setting round when Final Round action tees off Sunday at 9 a.m.
