The Siena women's golf team opened its 2008 fall campaign with a strong fourth place showing following the first round of the Dartmouth Invitational at the Hanover Country Club in Hanover, N.H. Sophomore sensation Katelynn Mannix fired a first round score of 71, including a stellar 34 on the back nine, to take the overall individual lead into the clubhouse.

The contingent of five for the Saints shot a combined team score of 316 for the first round, placing them in contingency for a chance at the overall championship tomorrow. Siena sits just eight shots behind overall leader and host Dartmouth. Brown (311) and Harvard (314) round out the top four in the 17 team field.

Mannix, the reigning MAAC Rookie of the Year and MAAC Tournament Individual Champion, picked up right where she left off, leading the field with her one under par score.

Fellow sophomore Catherine Shomo also finished strong, shooting a 35 on the back nine to finish with a 76 for the day, placing her in a tie for fifth individually.

Rounding out the Siena group where junior captain Bridget Carr (84) and freshmen Julie Juchno (85) and Rachel Aspero (104).

The second and final round tees off Sunday morning in Hanover.
