ORLANDO, FL-- The Siena women's golf team captured their fifth crown at the 2005 jetBlue Airways MAAC Golf Championship at the Magnolia Golf Course in Walt Disney World.
The Saints shot 338 in the final round of their 54-hole tournament giving them a two-day total of 997. While rival, Fairfield finished round three with 340 points and a three-day total of 1018.
Freshmen Melissa Agostinelli (Rochester, NY) claimed the 2005 Women's McLeod award, which is presented to the MAAC individual champion. The award is named after Charles "Scott" McLeod, a 1980 graduate of Iona College, who passed away in 1985 after a life-long fight with kidney-related ailments. McLeod was also a lifetime member of the Pelham Country Club, where the MAAC Tournament was held in the middle 1980's, and was a sponsor of the tournament the first year it was held at Pelhelm.
Fairfield's Liz McCabe finished four strokes behind Agostinelli with 245 points. First day leader, Jillian Blanchard (North Dartmouth, Mass.) and last season individual medalist, Laura Woolgar (Pearl River, N.Y.) both carded a 249 to finish in a two-way tie for third place. Freshman Bridget Erwin (Syracuse, NY) finished sixth (258) and sophomore Megan Angis (Saco, Maine) maintained the eighth spot (175).
