Siena Women Golfers In Control After Day 1 of the MAAC

ORLANDO, FL--The Siena women's golf team (330) lead five strokes ahead of Fairfield (335) after the first day of the 2005 JetBlue Airways Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championship at the Magnolia Golf Course at Walt Disney. The Saints shot a team score of 330 after round one of the 54-hole tournament. Fairfield's Allison Schick leads all scorers with an 80. Junior Jillian Blanchard (North Dartmouth, Mass.) finished close behind with an 81 with Stags Liz McCabe. Freshmen Melissa Agostinelli (Rochester, NY) and Bridget Erwin (Syracuse, NY) are within one stroke of each other with scores of 82 and 83 respectively. Last year, sophomore Laura Woolgar won the women's McLeod Award with a two-day total of 162 (81-81).Today, Woolgar finished seventh after carding an 84. Sophomore Megan Angis (Saco, Maine) rounded out the Saints five player roster finishing eighth (87). Championship play resume tomorrow with a 9:22 a.m. tee-off.
