The Siena Women’s Golf team had the best second round total of any team in the field of the Hawk Invitational, but it was not quite enough as they finished in second of the ten teams. Siena shot a 330 score on the final day, three points better than eventual champion Long Island University.
“Considering it was the first event in the spring there are some positives we can take away from this,” head coach Dave Wronowski said. “Obviously we’re disappointed in the one shot loss but we identified things we have to work on and we will be ready for the next tournaments.”
Victoria Nguyen once again was the top finisher for the Saints with a second round score of +8, which was tied for the best score in the field. Nguyen would end up finishing second overall, three strokes behind individual champion Marisol Doglioli of LIU.
Kylie Strijek improved her final day shooting by two strokes. Strijek was tied for the course lead in par putts in the two day event, which helped her finish seventh (+22).
Rounding out the Siena finishers in the top ten was Cortney Tilley and Mary Fletcher. Tilley completed play tied for eighth with a score of +23, while Fletcher was one stroke behind and finished tied for tenth.
Fletcher helped her score on par-three holes shooting a combined +2 in those opportunities, the best in the field.
The only other MAAC squad that received points was the University of Hartford who finished fourth, 22 shots behind Siena.
The Saints will be off until April 12, when they will participate in the Columbia Invite in Suffern, N.Y.
