LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Field Hockey was picked to finish sixth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Field Hockey Preseason Poll. Junior Jaycie St. John was named a Preseason All-MAAC selection.
Defending MAAC Champion Monmouth led the poll with 48 votes and six out of seven first place votes. The Hawks had four on the Preseason All-MAAC Team including Julie Laszlo as the Preseason Player of the Year. Fairfield was not too far behind Monmouth as they earned 40 points and received one first place vote to be picked to finish second.
Rounding out the top five was Rider (35), Bryant (29) and Sacred Heart (20). Siena was selected to finish sixth and received 14 points, while LIU Brooklyn was picked to finish seventh with 10 points.
Jaycie St. John was named to the MAAC Second Team after her efforts during the 2016 season. She started all 14 games for the Saints’ defense. St. John had tallied two goals and dished out one assist on the season. She also tied for the team lead with two defensive saves.
Siena opens their 2017 season on Friday, August 25 when the Saints travel to Burlington, Vermont to face Vermont. Siena and the Catamounts faced each other last season with Vermont taking the victory.
The Saints hope to use momentum from last season as they are set to return their top scorer from a team who scored their most goals since 2009. The program also finished in fifth and was just two wins away from earning a spot in the conference tournament.
