Siena Field Hockey Selected Ninth in NEC Preseason Poll

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Siena College Field Hockey team was picked to finish ninth in 2009 in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll as announced Thursday by conference headquarters in Somerset, N.J. Three-time defending conference champion Lock Haven received eight of nine first place votes in being selected to finish first.

Third year head coach Bill Davidson returns 15 letterwinners and eight of 11 starters from his 2009 squad which finished 1-16 overall and 1-6 in the Northeast Conference. The Saints will be led this season by experienced senior tri-captains Andrea Caso, Caroline Hunnewell and Kristin McGorty, but overall are young with 14 of the 21 student-athletes comprising the squad being freshmen and sophomores.

Following Lock Haven in the poll was Rider which was selected second and received one first place vote. Quinnipiac was chosen third with Sacred Heart fourth and Saint Francis (Pa.) rounding out the top-five. Monmouth was penciled in for sixth, with Robert Morris seventh and conference newcomer Bryant eighth, just ahead of the Saints.

The Saints open their 32nd season of competition on Sat., August 29 at 12 p.m. on Siena Turf Field against Radford.
