LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Field Hockey Head Coach Kara Zappone has revealed her program's 2014 schedule. The Saints will play in a total of 16 regular season games this fall including four dates at Siena Turf Field.
"We are very excited about the upcoming season and the successes that we hope to have," said Zappone who enters her third season as head coach. "All our hard work in the offseason has brought us closer to achieving our goals for this year."
The Saints kick off their 2014 campaign on Sun., Aug. 31 with a 1 p.m. start at Drexel. Siena will then face Kent State in a neutral site affair at the University of Vermont Sept. 5 before returning to the Capital Region.
Siena's home opener is set for Sun., Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. vs. Villanova. The Saints will also host another Big East school, Georgetown on Sept. 26, in the program's other non-conference home game.
The remainder of the Saints' non-conference games will come on the road at Saint Francis (Sept. 13), Lock Haven (Sept. 14), Fairfield (Sept. 20), Holy Cross (Sept. 24), crosstown rival UAlbany (Oct. 1), Brown (Oct. 5) and Colgate (Oct. 26).
Conference play opens Oct. 10 when the Saints welcome defending MAAC Champion Quinnipiac to Loudonville. The Saints will also host Sacred Heart (Oct. 24) in conference home action.
On the road, the Saints will face Bryant (Oct. 17), Monmouth (Oct. 31) and Rider (Nov. 2) in MAAC play.
The top four finishers in the new-look six-team conference will qualify for the MAAC Tournament. The semifinals (Nov. 7) and championship (Nov. 9) will be hosted by the highest seeded full MAAC member.
The Saints return eight starters and 15 letterwinners and will welcome four newcomers to the program this fall.
