Siena Field Hockey head coach Kara Zappone announced her Class of 2019 recruiting class featuring eight players, the largest class in her tenure. These freshmen will be called upon early for a Saints squad that graduated five seniors after winning their last game of 2014.
"The eight players joining the 2015 roster are incredibly talented hockey players and great people. Many of them will contribute and be impact players for the Siena Field Hockey program from the start," said head coach Kara Zappone, "There is a combination of skills, speed, and experience allowing these women to transition very smoothly to the college game."
Fariyah Omarshah (Harare, Zimbabwe)
The first international player brought in under Zappone, Omarshah comes to Loudonville from the African country of Zimababwe. Omarshah played for the Arundel School in Harare Zimbabwe, where she was their leading scorer in 2014. She also played on the U16B, U19A and Women's National Zimbabwe squads, was selected to play in the Zimbabwe Women's Select Inter Provicial Tournament and received a national level D grade for umpiring. Omarshah enrolled in Siena this spring and will play forward and midfield for the Saints.
Jaycie St. John (Lititz, Pa.)
The Lititz, Pa. native played for Warwick High School and played club for High Styx. She was a Lancaster-Lebanon League All-Star in both 2013 and 2014 and an All-State selection in 2014. St. John was also a member of the Junior Premiere Indoor and Outdoor Leagues. A star lacrosse player for Warwick High School as well, she will play defense for the Saints.
Courtney Baldwin (Rocky Point, N.Y.)
Baldwin comes to the Saints from Rocky Point N.Y. where she played for Rocky Point High school and the East End club team. She was Suffolk County All-Division and All-Conference selection last season for the Eagles. Also a member of the Track team at Rocky Point, Baldwin will play midfield for the Saints.
Morgan Dennett (Fishkill, N.Y)
Dennett comes to Siena from the closest distance of all the class of 2019 recruits. She played for John Jay High School and for the Hudson Valley club team. Dennett was a Section 1 All-Section and All-Elite Selection last season, as well as a 2-time All-League Selection. She led the Patriots in scoring with 16 goals and five assists, en route to being named a Poughkeepsie Journal Field Hockey All-Star as well. In 2013 and 2014 she was a National Futures Championships Selection and will play midfield for the Saints.
Nicole Miller (Mamaroneck, N.Y.)
A standout for Rye Neck Senior High School, Miller also played for the New Heights club team. She was a four-time all-league selection, three time all-section selection and 2014 All-State Selection. Finishing her career with 55 goals and 65 assists, Miller was also a member of the Softball team at Rye Neck. She will play midfield and forward for the Saints.
Marie Aloi (North Syracuse, N.Y.)
Aloi will be another offensive asset for the Saints next season. She led Cicero-North Syracuse High School to league Championships in 2012, 2013 and 2014, and the Section III Class A Championship in 2014. A two-time All-League selection and 2014 Section III All-Star, she led the North Stars with 15 goals last season. Aloi will be used as a midfield and forward for the Saints
Aubrie Bleier (Pittsford, N.Y.)
The Pittsford, N.Y. native comes to the Siena after a decorated career for Pittsford Southerland High School and the Fingerlakes club team. In 2014 alone, she earned First Team All-Great Rochester, First Team All-County, and First Team All-State Honors. She led the Knights in goals and assists, and to a berth in the Section V Class B/C Semi-Final. Bleier will play forward for the Saints.
Katelyn McMahon (Barrington, R.I.)
One of only three 2019 signees from outside the state of New York, McMahon played for Barrington High School and the Lead the Way Club team. A very decorated player not only in the State of Rhode Island but regionally, she was named All-Division in 2013 and 2014, and All-State in 2012, 2013, and 2014. She was a National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) selection and an All-academic team member, scoring 11 goals and eight assists for the Eagles last year. McMahon will play Midfield for the Saints.
"Jaycie, Morgan, Courtney and Katelyn will provide physical strength and experience to our midfield and defense while Fairyah, Marie and Aubrie add a lot of speed both with and without the ball. Fairyah, having joined the squad in January, is already accustomed to our coaching, the team, and tactics so she will be able to jump right back in upon the return to campus in August."
The Saints defeated first-place Rider in their season finale and will look to build on consecutive 1-15 seasons.
