Field Hockey Honored by NFHCA for Academic Excellence

Katherine Bowie was one of three Saints named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad.

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – The Siena Field Hockey Team was named to the National Academic Team as announced by the Field Hockey Coaches Association. Siena also had three individuals, senior Cory dela Gorgendiere, junior Theresa Tremblay and junior Katherine Bowie named to the NFHCA National Academics Squad.

"Our successes as a team are measured both in the classroom and on the field," said head coach Kara Zappone. "It is rewarding to be recognized for all the hard work our team puts into their studies both as a team and individually. I am very proud of the team and the individuals for being recognized."

In order to be considered for the 2013 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award, teams needed to have an overall team GPA of 3.0 or higher

Field Hockey also had three individuals recognized for the academic success for the Fall 2013 semester. The National Academic Squad recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2013-14 academic year.

Senior Cory dela Gorgendiere was one of 89 student athletes to be named to the Academic Squad for the fourth consecutive year. Joining dela Gorgendiere on the Academic Squad are juniors Katherine Bowie and Theresa Tremblay.

Siena is one of 66 teams to be named on the Academic Team, including every field hockey team in the MAAC was also named to the Academic Team for their hard work in the classroom.
