Jackie Barton scored both goals and Erin McKay and Loren Montgomery combined to make 11 saves in preserving a 2-0 Quinnipiac (7-10/3-2 NEC) shutout victory over Siena (3-12/2-3) in Hamden, Conn. Sunday afternoon. Kristen Heyde collected 14 saves in a losing effort for the Saints.
Barton started the scoring just under five minutes into the game with an unassisted goal. Her second goal came with 19 minutes left in the first half on an assist from Jill DiSanti. Quinnipiac dominated the action in the first half, out-shooting Siena 12-4. Heyde had nine of her 14 saves before the intermission.
Neither team managed a goal in the final 54 minutes of the game, though Siena did pick up the heat in the second half. Seniors Lacee Iselo and Erin Mead combined for nine of Siena's 13 shots after the break, but none found their way to the back of the cage.
The loss drops Siena to 2-3 in NEC play, and the four seed in the upcoming (four-team) NEC Tournament. The Saints will take on host Rider in Lawrenceville, N.J. on Friday.
