Stephanie Walker's hat trick propelled Rider to a 6-1 Northeast Conference field hockey victory over Siena in Lawrenceville on Friday afternoon. The loss ended Siena's hopes of a repeat appearance in the NEC Tournament last this month.
Walker's first goal came just three minutes into the game, as she finished a Christina Ang feed to put the Broncs on top 1-0. Meaghan Schweers added to the advantage at the 11:47 mark and Victoria Barrington put Rider up 3-0 three minutes later.
Freshman Hanna Lestrange scored Siena's only goal with a Carly Demartis assist at 16:19 to trim the lead to 3-1. Walker scored twice more before the intermission to complete the first half hat trick. Schweers second goal with less than three minutes remaining in the game accounted for the final 6-1 score.
Rider pummeled the Siena cage to the tune of 37 shots compared to just four for Siena. Kristen Heyde made a career high 17 saves in defeat. The Broncs also held a commanding 25-5 advantage in penalty corners.
Siena's season concludes Sunday at Monmouth.
