Sophomore Christina Ang tallied two goals and an assist to lead Rider to a crucial Northeast Conference win over Siena Sunday afternoon in Lawrenceville, N.J. The win clinched a spot in the upcoming NEC Tournament for the Broncs.
Ang, the leading scorer in the NEC, assisted on a goal by classmate Katie Conlon mid-way though the first half to give Rider (10-5/8-4 NEC) a 1-0 lead. Siena (5-8/4-6 NEC)tied the score three minutes later as Erin Mead (Chestertown, N.Y./North Warren) found Kaitlin Auciello (Uxbridge, Mass./Uxbridge) for the equalizer.
Ang scored the games next two goals just two minutes apart 17 minutes into the second half. Mead scored the games final tally with just 19 seconds remaining. It was the sixth straight game Mead had registered at least one goal.
Rider out-shot Siena 24-10. Kristen Heyde made 11 saves in the cage for the Saints, while Rider goalkeeper Jen Cushinotto had eight stops.
The Saints are no in a dogfight for the final spot in the upcoming NEC Tournament. The team will take on Bucknell at 3 p.m. on Tuesday before battling Sacred Heart in a conference match at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both game s will take place on the Siena campus.
