LOUDONVILLE, NY— Siena Field Hockey would keep the score tied heading into the half against MAAC rival Rider this afternoon. Saints tried to capture the lead but would fall to the Broncs 2-1. Freshman forward Stephanie Hand scored for the Saints and sophomore goalie Mary Crumlish recorded nine saves.
Siena (0-13, 0-2) was edged (18-3) in shots against Rider (7-6, 2-1) as well as in corners (14-2). However, Saints would lead in saves (9-1) and in defensive saves (2-0) over the Broncs.
Siena and Rider would remain scoreless for 14 minutes, until 14:28 when Rider’s Maria Madsen rebounded a shot off Crumlish to help give the Broncs the 1-0 advantage.
Saints wouldn’t take their first shot until 30:22 when junior defender Jaycie St. John would pass the ball into the box and Hand would grab the ball through defenders, managing to tap in her fourth goal this season.
Siena and Rider would head into the half tied at one and remain tied for just under 20 minutes into the second half.
At 54:27 Rider would be a man down due to a green card penalty. However, Maria Madsen would cross the ball in front of the goal as Tess Coorens would find the ball to hit it into the top right corner of the goal taking control of the lead once again.
Siena would try to come back but tough defense would lead Rider into the 2-1 win over the Saints.
Siena has a quick turn around as they prepare to travel to Brooklyn, New York this Sunday to take on MAAC opponent LIU Brooklyn at 12 p.m.
