After starting off early in the second half with a 2-0 lead, Siena Field Hockey was defeated in a late rally by Big East opponent Quinnipiac. Bobcats would score 3 goals in the last 17 minutes of the game to defeat the Saints 3-2. Junior forward Fariyah Omarshah and freshman forward Stephanie Hand scored the two goals for the Saints as sophomore goalie Mary Crumlish recorded 12 saves.
20 minutes into the first half, both teams would remain scoreless until the 21st minute when Omarshah would take a penalty corner that would travel to junior midfielder Nicole Miller. Miller would send in a shot as Omarshah would deflect the ball into the goal allowing the Saints (0-12) to take the 1-0 lead over the Bobcats (4-10) heading into the half.
Just seven and a half minutes into the half, Saints would come out strong as Miller would cross a pass in front of the goal to Hand who would then go head to head against Quinnipiac goalie Livy Golini and sneak the ball into the goal extending Siena’s lead to 2-0.
39 seconds later, Bobcats would respond as Michelle Federico would send the ball in towards Dayna Barlow who would sweep the ball into the right side of the goal and get Quinnipiac on the board trailing 2-1.
Six and a half minutes later, Ines Ruiz Martinez would score for the Bobcats making it a tie game at two with just over ten minutes left in regulation.
Unfortunately at 63:43 Quinnipiac’s Lauren Belskie would send in the game winning goal to lift the Bobcats over the Saints in Hamden, Connecticut.
