LOUDONVILLE, NY-- Siena Field Hockey fell to La Salle 4-1 on Sunday afternoon. Mackenzie Karcher scored a hat-trick that ultimately lead to the explorers victory. Freshman forward Stephanie Hand scored the lone goal for the saints.
Eight minutes into the game, Karcher tapped in a rebound behind Siena (0-10) goalie Mary Crumlish to give the explorers (6-4) the 1-0 lead.
Just a few minutes later, junior forward Fariyah Omarshah took a shot at goal which was rebounded off La Salle goalie Emma Provost and shot back out to sophomore midfielder Tatiana Wypych. Wypych then attempted a close shot at goal but was too high. La Salle would hold onto the lead at 1-0.
At the 17th minute mark, La Salle's Nina Magnotta took a shot at goal that would be saved by Crumlish. However, Chloe Lucky would put in the rebound and put the explorers up 2-0.
It wasn't until 32:32 when Omarshah shot a long ball in towards goal. Hand, standing by the goal, grabbed a piece of the ball and deflected it into the box. Siena would get on the board, 2-1 entering the half.
With congestion in front of the goal, La Salle's Mackenzie Karcher would tip a ball into the goal at 42:53 to start the half and would later on score her third goal of the game by taking a penalty stroke in the 60th minute to lead the explorers to victory .
Siena will hit the road Friday as they open up MAAC conference play against Sacred Heart. The game will be played at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut at 7 p.m.
