Siena field hockey continues to improve their play on the season but dropped their sixth straight game this season after Fairfield defeated the Saints 4-0 Sunday afternoon at Siena College.
"I am really proud of the team today and their performance," said coach Kara Zappone. "They put a lot of pressure on Fairfield and forced a lot of turnovers. Every day we continue to grow as a team and improve every day. We played with a lot of intensity today."
The Saints (0-6) controlled the tempo for most of the first half, outplaying the Stags (6-2) with an early advantage in penalty corners. The Saints were unable to keep momentum as Fairfield regrouped and defeated the Saints behind the play of freshman forward Julie de Paeuw.
Julie de Paeuw scored twice and assisted on another goal to lead the charge for the Stags. Shealyn Testa and Kaitlyn Taddeo also scored for the Stags.
Sage Stebbins played a complete game for the Saints as she recorded three shots with two on goal. Freshman Ashley Donacame off the bench to give the Saints a spark offensively to provide pressure on the Stags goalie, Caitlin Bennett. Dona nearly had two goals for the Saints, but the ball did not bounce the Saints way today.
Goalie Beth Meyerstallied eight saves on the day for the Saints to bring her season total to 33.
The Saints travel to Richmond, Virginia this weekend to play VCU on Saturday, September 28 and Davidson on Sunday (9/29).
