Rhode Island Thwarts Siena Field Hockey Upset Effort 3-2

Junior Kelly Johnson scored the game winning goal with 14:40 remaining as the University of Rhode Island (2-4) field hockey team defeated Siena (0-8) 3-2 Saturday at the URI Field Hockey Complex.
For the second time in as many games the Saints played a solid first half, sprinting to a 2-0 lead before allowing a late tally that cut the lead in half.
Lacee Iselo scored Siena's first goal off a Kate Karoglanian assist at the 23:54 mark of the first half and Kelly Morgan followed with her first career goal off a Lindsay Foltz feed five minutes later to help Siena create the advantage.
Johnson assisted on the Rams' first goal, a tally by junior Jess Arnold with just 15 seconds remaining in the first half.
Senior Heather Scherick tied the game off the first of two assists from junior Joy Hess with 26:25 remaining in the game.
Johnson then scored the game-winner off a pass from Hess with 14:40 remaining.
Rhode Island senior goalkeeper Jennifer Perry made seven saves in net. Senior back Courtney Wood (Kempton, Pa.) added a defensive save.
Kristen Heyde made 12 stops in the cage for Siena which has a week off before beginning conference play at Siena Field Saturday, September 27 at noon.
