Field Hockey Shuts Down Robert Morris For First Win of Season

Freshman Traci Baldwin started the scoring with an unassisted goal just under three minutes into the game, and the Saints tacked on a pair of second half scores en route to their initial win of the season, a 3-0 triumph over Robert Morris in Moon Township, Pa. Sunday afternoon. Classmate Ashley Pereira and junior McKenna Smith each registered their first career goals after intermission, and Kristen Heyde earned the shutout in the cage.

Following Baldwin's early score the team's traded shots for the remainder of the first half with the Saints carrying a slim 6-4 edge in attempts to the locker room.

The Saints controlled the action in the second half, owning a 6-1advantage in shots and a 3-0 edge in penalty corners. Pereira provided the first insurance goal 15 minutes into the second half scoring off one of the penalty corners. Carly Demartis and Kathleen Brennan were credited with the double assist off the direct pass in.

Smith scored her first goal with 3:35 remaining off an assist from Lori Barletta.

Siena, now 1-5 on the season and 1-0 in NEC play, returns to action at Columbia next Sunday.
