Siena Drops 2-0 Decision at Colgate
Sept. 9, 2003 Sophomore Sarah McCarthy and junior Kath Shelley scored second half goals off of penalty corners to lead the Colgate field hockey team to a 2-0 non-conference win over Siena Tuesday night at Tyler's Field. After a scoreless first half where Colgate (1-2, 1-0 PL) outshot the Saints 12-3, McCarthy had a chance to get the Raiders on the board at 49:46 when Siena's goalkeeper Kristen Heyde came out of the cage, but Lauren Mecchella made a defensive save to keep the Raiders off the board. Less than two minutes later, McCarthy got her third goal of the season and put the Raiders ahead 1-0 off of a penalty corner. Juniors Courtney Collins and Natalie Heller assisted on the goal. The Raiders went up 2-0 on an insurance goal by Shelley at 67:41. Heller passed the ball in to Shelley, who stopped it herself and took a shot from the top of the circle for her second goal of the season. Siena had a chance to get on the board at 43:07 as the Saints were awarded a penalty shot, but Colgate freshman goalkeeper Jacque DeMarco stopped Lacee Iselo's shot.
