Freshman Kristen Holder scored unassisted midway through the second half, as UAlbany posted its first victory of the season with a 2-0 non-league win over Siena on Wednesday at Union College's Frank Bailey Field.
Holder broke up a scoreless deadlock with 20:46 remaining, when in a two-on-one situation she carried the ball through the middle, dodge a defender, and fired a shot into the back of the cage. Tina Bryson added her third goal of the season for insurance with exactly one minute left off a scramble in front.
Siena's Kristen Heyde played well in the cage for the second straight game, holding a shutout until Holder's tally. Heyde had 13 saves in a losing effort.
UAlbany goalkeeper Barbara Czaplinski made one save in recording the first shutout of her collegiate career. The Great Danes controlled the action with a 22-2 shot advantage. The Saints are 0-2 overall.
The Saints open their home season Sunday against Rhode Island.
