Field Hockey Falls to Fairfield 2-0 in Maine Invitational

ORONO, Maine -- Lauren Pizzi and Kelly Rath each scored a goal off a penalty corner in the first half, resulting in a 2-0 win for the Fairfield University field hockey team over Siena Saturday afternoon.

The Stags jumped out to a 1-0 lead off their second penalty corner, as Kiara Nickl sent a pass to Pizzi, who beat goaltender Kristen Heyde to the near-side corner. Heyde had six saves in the cage for Siena (0-2). Fairfield doubled its advantage a few minutes later. Megan Moynihan took an initial shot off a penalty corner, which was kicked away by Heyde. Rath controlled the rebound and sent a shot past the goaltender for a 2-0 lead.

Fairfield goaltender Lauren Thomas made three saves to record her second shutout of the season.
