FAIRFIELD, CONN. - Siena Women's Basketball closes out non-conference action and the 2012 calendar year when the Saints face defending Northeast Conference Champion Sacred Heart Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Pitt Center. Saints Stumble in Opener
For 20 minutes Friday night, the Siena women's basketball team treated fans to an exciting brand of basketball that hinted at a promising season on the horizon. For 20 minutes Friday night, the team showed there's plenty of work left to do. Sacred Heart out-scored the Saints 31-13 after intermission on its way to a comfortable 62-45 opening night triumph.
The Saints (4-6) are looking to gain momentum following a 57-51 road win at Atlantic-10 foe UMass Friday night. The Saints led by as much as 16 points and were buoyed by a career-high 17-point effort from sophomore guard Ida Krogh
Siena and Sacred Heart (6-4) are meeting for the fourth straight season after having never previously met before. The Pioneers have won two of the past three meetings.
Sacred Heart is 2-0 against the MAAC so far this season with blowout home wins over both Saint Peter's and Manhattan. The Pioneers rank in the top-30 nationally in turnover margin, free-throw percentage and steals and are led by junior point guard Ericka Norman who ranks in the top-15 nationally in both assists and steals.
