LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Senior Jolene Johnston led all scorers with 17 points, leading the Saints to a 76-53 conference victory over Fairfield University at the Alumni Recreation Center on the campus of Siena College. With the MAAC win the Saints improve to 1-0 in the league and 3-2 overall, while the Stags drop to 1-4 on the season and 0-1 in the MAAC.
Siena sunk nine three-pointers, including four from senior Erica Anderson, and outrebounded Fairfield 46-30 en route to the 23-point victory.
The Saints broke a 19-19 tie in the first half, going on a 15-0 run to take a 34-23 lead with a 2:19 left in the first half. Siena then maintained their lead the rest of the way as they took a 38-28 advantage into halftime.
The Stags never managed to stage a comeback as Siena scored 38 second-half points.
Nine different Saints scored with four players reaching double figures. Johnston lead the way, netting a season-high 17 points while grabbing five rebounds. Anderson finished the night with 14 points and had six rebounds while junior Nathalie Marchino had 11 points and seven rebounds. Senior Gunta Basko had a double-double recording 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Milica Miljkovic led Fairfield with 13 points while Katie Hammer added 11 points and nine rebounds for the Stags.
The Saints next travel to Lawrenceville, N.J. to face Rider University this Sunday, December 8. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
