ALBANY, N.Y. - It's the most highly anticipated Capital Region women's basketball game of the year. Siena looks to reclaim the Albany Cup when they square off with crosstown rival UAlbany at 4 p.m. here at the Times Union Center for the front end of a doubleheader with the Siena men.
The men's squad faces Loyola following the women's game with tip-off of the men's tilt set for 7 p.m. Tickets are good for both games and fans can purchase tickets online by clicking the "Buy Tickets" link at the top of the page.
Additionally, the game will be broadcast throughout New York State on Time Warner Sports. Robert Lee, Tom Huerter and Marisa Jacques have the call. The game can be seen in the Capital Region on Ch. 3 (SD) or Ch. 1803 (HD), in Buffalo and Syracuse on Ch. 13, in Rochester on Ch. 26 and in New York City on Ch. 197.
The doubleheader marks the college's annual athletics Hall of Fame Day. Three former women's greats - Katy (Sturgis) Robinson '83, Gunta (Basko) Melnbarde '03 and Liene Jansone '04 - will be enshrined in a 1 p.m. ceremony at TASTE in Albany and honored at halftime of the men's game.
Siena (1-3) has won six of eight meetings against UAlbany (3-4) since the rivalry was renewed during the 2001-02 season. However, the programs' have split the last four meetings and the Saints will be looking to win back Capital Region bragging rights after the Great Danes went on a 15-4 to end last year's game and claim a 63-59 victory.
