LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Siena Athletic Department is expecting an energized student environment for Saturday's annual Albany Cup contests at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y. Thanks to the generosity of corporate sponsors Citizens Bank and CDPHP, Siena recently allocated an additional 237 student tickets to send its total distribution over 1,400. Currently, 2,900 students are enrolled in Siena's 29 undergraduate degree programs.
"It's great to see the student excitement at such a high level," explained Siena Athletics corporate sales manager Scott Knapp. "To have around half of our student population attend an off-campus sporting event is truly a reflection of the school-spirit embodied in our students. As a former member of the Siena basketball team, I can only imagine the boost the team will receive from the energy provided by the student support."
Last year, 1,150 Siena students enjoyed the excitement of the double-overtime thriller where the Saints prevailed 76-75. This year's expected student attendance will mark a record setting crowd since the series was rekindled in 2001.
"We must thank both Citizens Bank and CDPHP for their generous donation of tickets to be used for our student body. I know the students are extremely appreciative of the opportunity that these two community leaders have afforded them."
The Siena women kick off the doubleheader with the Great Danes at 5 p.m. The men are scheduled to follow with its annual rivalry. Tip off is expected at 7 p.m.
