SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Meeting for the first time since their memorable 2003 WNIT showdown, Siena Women's Basketball aims for its first win over a Big East program in nine years when the Saints face Seton Hall at 7 p.m. at Walsh Gymnasium. Fans can follow all the action through Gameday Central which begins with pregame coverage at 6:30 p.m.
Siena (2-3) earned its most recent WNIT victory and triumph over a Big East foe when the Saints defeated Seton Hall (2-4) 66-58 on Mar. 20, 2003 at the Alumni Recreation Center. The Saints have since lost five in a row vs. the BCS conference, but nonetheless sport a respectable 10-17 mark all-time vs. the 15 schools that currently comprise the Big East.
The Saints are looking to build off their momentum gained from an impressive 62-44 win at Binghamton Saturday. Siena forced 27 turnovers including 20 steals against the Bearcats and currently lead the MAAC in both turnovers forced (23.8) and steals (11.6).
Over the past three games Siena's defense has been most impressive, bequeathing just 46.7 points while forcing an average of 24.7 turnovers. A similar performance tonight may be enough to earn the Saints a .500 finish for the month of November, which would be the program's first since 2003.
Led by Hall of Famer, 1983 National Player of the Year and the head coach of the 2008 Gold Medal US Olympic Basketball team Anne Donovan, the Pirates are mired in a four-game losing streak. Seton Hall is managing just 41.2 points per game during its skid and averages just 49.3 points for the season.
Coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. tonight with the radio pregame show on WVCR 88.3 FM "The Saint." Fans can also tune into the call of the game free online at SienaAllAccess.com.
