LOUDONVILLE -- Although she is entrusted with the future of the Siena women's basketball program, first-year head coach Ali Jaques took a break to look back on her own playing career before the Saints began practicing this month.

Jaques slipped in a video of the 1996-97 season, when she helped New York University win the NCAA Division III championship. She grabbed the rebound that led to the go-ahead layup in the closing seconds as NYU beat Wisconsin-Eau Claire for the title.

"I watch our highlight film from that year every year before I start practice," Jaques said. "Just because it reminds me how special a time that was in my life and how exciting that was."

The Siena women will try to create their own winning memories under Jaques, a Northwestern assistant hired in the off-season to replace Gina Castelli, who parted ways with the school after eight consecutive losing seasons.
