Siena seniors O.D. Anosike and Lily Grenci have each been named to the Preseason MAAC Basketball First Team. Both students are now candidates for MAAC Preseason Player of the Year, which will be announced during the MAAC Preseason Awards Shows Friday, November 9 on ESPN3.
Anosike and Grenci were both MAAC First Team selections last year after breakthrough junior seasons.
Anosike led the nation in rebounding (12.5), and ranked second in the country in double-doubles (23) as a junior. He was First Team NABC All-District, a National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court selection, and a Lou Henson (Mid-Major) All American. Anosike was featured in the Final Four program thanks to a streak of 17 consecutive double-doubles from Nov. 21 - Feb. 3 that was the longest in program history, and second longest in Division I in last 15 years. He led the team, and ranked ninth in MAAC, in scoring (15.0 ppg), and was fourth in the MAAC with 36.8 mpg. Anosike finished the season ranked second nationally with 23 double-doubles.
Grenci was one of just 11 student athletes nationally to be named to the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association Scholar Athlete Team last season. She was second in the MAAC in scoring (15.2), and third in rebounding (7.8). Grenci was the only player in the MAAC to score in double figures in all 18 regular season MAAC games.
The women's Preseason Awards Show is set for 6:15 p.m. on ESPN 3 on Friday, November 9, and the men's debuts at 8:15 p.m.
