Siena men's and women's basketball programs helped kickoff the Capital Region Miracle League's 2009 NFL Special Needs Flag Football Season this past Sunday at Jaime M. Adams Field in East Greenbush. Siena players were on hand with the women's basketball coaches to visit with the special needs athletes and celebrate their involvement in athletics. FOX 23 Sports Anchor Rich Becker hosted the day long flag football event.

Jaime M. Adams Field is the first multi-sport facility developed for special needs athletes in the United States. The specialized field, already in place, is seamless, to accommodate wheel chairs and crutches, and the field itself is made of a special, latex-free material so the children who have developed latex allergies from medical treatments will not be adversely affected.

The season will be dedicated to the memory of Steven Sheehy, a beloved son, friend and athlete who passed away on April 17, 2008. The Capital Region Miracle League provides an array of athletic opportunities for special needs athletes.

Siena's women's basketball team has a longstanding relationship with Burke Adams, Capital Region Miracle League President, and holds a clinic for his group each winter.
