LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - New Siena Women's Basketball Head Coach Ali Jaques has released her program's 11-game non-conference schedule which tips off Friday Nov. 9 at the Times Union Center vs. Fairleigh Dickinson in the front end of a doubleheader with the men's team. The Saints will undertake a challenging slate which includes three games against teams that played in last year's NCAA Tournament and two road games at Big East foes.
"This non-conference schedule will be a challenge, but I believe it will prepare us night in and night out for the teams and varying styles we will see once conference play begins," said Jaques.
The Jaques era begins with a 5 p.m. tip-off on Nov. 9 vs. FDU which precedes the men's season opener at 7:30 p.m. vs. Vermont. The Saints will play one additional non-conference doubleheader at the Times Union Center when they host defending America East Champion UAlbany in the Albany Cup Dec. 1.
Siena will play three additional home games at the Alumni Recreation Center facing North Carolina A&T (Nov. 20), Maine (Dec. 5) and defending Atlantic 10 Champion Dayton (Dec. 22). Jaques spent the 2005-06 season on the Flyers staff under head coach Jim Jabir who returns to Loudonville after serving as the Saints' head coach from 1987-90.
The six-game non-conference road schedule opens Tuesday Nov. 13 with a 1 p.m. matinee at Pittsburgh. The Saints other Big East road game comes Nov. 28 at Seton Hall.
Additionally, the Saints face Rhode Island (Nov. 17), Binghamton (Nov. 24) and UMass (Dec. 28) on the road before closing out the non-conference slate and 2012 calendar year Dec. 30 at defending Northeast Conference Champion Sacred Heart. Jaques will face another one of her former mentors that afternoon in Ed Swanson who she coached under from 1999-02 with the Pioneers.
The complete 2012-13 schedule will be unveiled this fall once the MAAC schedule is released.
