LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Former Siena women's basketball standout Melissa Manzer '08 has signed a professional contract to play for SISU Copenhagen, a Danish League Club which competes in the Dameligaen.
"I am thrilled to have this opportunity to continue my dream of playing basketball," said Manzer. "I want to thank everyone who helped me along the way to reach this goal."
A native of Johnson City, N.Y., Manzer concluded her playing career this spring as one of the most decorated players in program history. She finished her career ranking amongst the all-time Siena leaders with 964 career points. Her career free throw percentage of 90.6% is tops in program history and her 162 made three pointers are fifth best.
This past season, Manzer led the MAAC in free throw percentage (.895), while ranking second in three pointers made (71) and ninth in scoring (13.3).
In the classroom, Manzer was a member of the MAAC All-Academic Team and was the Leo Dufort Student-Athlete of the Month in January 2007. For her accomplishments, she was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team in April.
"We're happy for Melissa to have this opportunity" said Head Coach Gina Castelli. "She's such a passionate player and it's great that she has a chance to accomplish her dream."
Manzer joins her new teammates for a Preseason contest in Sweden on Saturday. The season gets underway in October and lasts through the end of April.
