Complete Non-Conference Schedule
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Women's Basketball is going to be well prepared when its 25th season in the MAAC tips off in late December. Second-year head coach Ali Jaques has released her program's nine-game non-conference schedule which features four teams that advanced to the postseason in 2013 and two which were nationally ranked.
"Our staff worked really hard to have a strong non-conference schedule," noted Jaques. "We really wanted to challenge ourselves by playing against some very good teams and well respected coaches."
Siena's eight confirmed opponents posted a cumulative record of 150-101 (.598) last season. Three participated in the NCAA Tournament and one advanced to the WNIT.
The 2013-14 season tips off with the highly anticipated Albany Cup doubleheader on Friday, Nov. 8 at the Times Union Center. The women's game tips at 5 p.m., with the men's edition scheduled to follow at 7 p.m.
Siena and UAlbany meet for the 11th time in women's action since the rivalry was renewed in 2001 and 17th time overall. The Saints lead the all-time series 10-6, but will look to reclaim the Albany Cup for the first time since 2009. UAlbany won 27 games a year ago and captured the America East Championship en route to an NCAA Tournament bid.
The Albany Cup is one of four non-conference home games for the Saints and one of three which falls on weekends. In Jaques' first season, attendance increased by 21% and the Saints' head coach hopes to continue to excite and expand the growing fan base this winter.
"We also worked hard to have non-conference home games on weekends in the hopes of continuing to build on the great crowd support we got from our fans last season," added Jaques. "We look forward to seeing lots of Green and Gold cheering on the Saints!"
The Saints hit the road for the first time on Nov. 16 when they face Fairleigh Dickinson in Hackensack, N.J. Siena cruised past FDU 76-56 in last year's season opener making Jaques victorious in her head coaching debut.
Siena participates in the prestigious TD Bank Classic hosted by the University of Vermont Nov. 22-23. The Saints open with defending Horizon League Champion Green Bay which won 29 games last season and was ranked 20th in the final AP Top-25 Poll and 24th in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll. The host Catamounts play North Florida in the other game with the winners and losers to square off on the second and final day of the tournament.
Siena closes out November on the 26th at the ARC against 2013 WNIT participant Sacred Heart which is coming off a 22-win campaign. The Saints will also play host to Buffalo (Dec. 7) and Binghamton (Dec. 21) in non-conference action in Loudonville.
On the road, the Saints will also travel to Central Connecticut (Dec. 3) and Maryland (Dec. 9). The Terrapins won 26 games and advanced to the Sweet 16, finishing last season ranked 12th in the AP Top-25 Poll and No. 11 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll. The teams will be meeting for the fourth time since 2004.
