LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Thanks to the generous support of the local community, Siena Women's Basketball is pleased to announce that the program raised a new record of $30,860 during the Saints' 14th Annual Pink Zone Game presented by Berkshire Bank on Feb. 20. Proceeds from the event, which seeks to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research, benefit the Capital Region Action Against Breast Cancer.
"I want to thank the organizing committee, CRAAB! and all of those who donated or sponsored this year's Pink Zone Game that helped us set a new record," said head coach Ali Jaques. "The Pink Zone game is a humbling event for our players and staff and we are grateful to be a part of it each year."
Since the game's inception, the Saints have raised a total of $136,425 for Capital Region Action Against Breast Cancer. Proceeds help fund CRAAB! programs which provide support to those in the local community who are both battling breast cancer or have completed treatments.
"The Pink Zone event is truly heartwarming for all of us at CRAAB!" noted Joan Sheehan, Vice President of CRAAB! "Being the beneficiary of this wonderful event to celebrate survivorship and the work we do to assist survivors is awe inspiring due to the support we receive from the fans, the players and the Siena family."
During the Feb. 20 game against Quinnipiac at the Alumni Recreation Center, the Saints wore custom made pink uniforms. Just prior to tip-off the team held a special survivors recognition, escorting local breast cancer survivors onto the court and recognized their courageous battles against the disease. Three local individuals who have made a difference in the Capital Region's battle against breast cancer were honored with "Power Up the Pink" awards and vendors and displays were set up around the gym with vital information on the fight against breast cancer.
Proceeds were raised through corporate sponsorships, a silent auction, raffle items, honorary committee memberships and individual donations.

About Capital Region Action Against Breast Cancer
CRAAB! is a community-based non-profit organization created in 1997 by a diverse group of caregivers, health practitioners, educators, advocates and several breast cancer survivors who know first-hand about the shock of a cancer diagnosis and the need to find support. The late Patricia Brown of Siena College co-founded this organization. Dr. Brown served the Siena College biology department for 35 years. She inspired colleagues and students with her passion for teaching and her endless energy to create change.
