LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena women's basketball had five players named to the MAAC All-Academic Team as announced by the league last week. Seniors Heather Stec and Jess Edmonds and juniors Sarah Fullmer, Merrick Volpe and Sara Parnell each have a 3.2 GPA or better.
Stec (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) was selected to the All-Academic Team for the third straight year. She owns a 3.44 GPA as a biology and psychology double-major. Stec led the team with 13.9 points and 8.4 rebounds this season. She was named Second Team All-MAAC at the end of this season.
Edmonds (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) makes the list for the second time in her career as she has a 3.54 GPA in computer science. She missed her entire senior season with a knee injury, but supported the team from the bench. Edmonds played in 41 games during her career.
Fullmer (Swansea, Mass./Joseph Case) is a two-time All-Academic Team member. She has a team-high GPA of 3.58 in history. Fullmer averaged 7.4 points and five rebounds this season. She shot 47.5% from the field and was a Sixth Player of the Year nominee.
Volpe (Clyde, N.Y./Clyde-Savannah) is a two-time All-Academic Team member. She has a 3.37 GPA in psychology. Volpe started 18 games this season and averaged 5.8 points and 2.2 assists per game.
Parnell (Franklin, Mass./Worcester Academy) is also a two-time All-Academic Team member. She has a 3.45 GPA in psychology and played in 18 games this season.
To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a player must achieve at least a 3.2 (on a 4.0 scale) grade point average and must be of at least sophomore academic standing.
