HAMDEN, CT - In their second-straight game hitting 10 three’s Quinnipiac topped Siena Women’s Basketball 68-54 in the league opener at the TD Bank Sports Center on Thursday evening. The 10 treys made are tied for the second most made this season for the Bobcats.
Siena (5-7, 0-1 MAAC) guard Kollyns Scarbrough led all scorers with 15 points. The Jamaica, New York native added eight rebounds and four assists. Aaliyah Jones added 10 points for Siena, while Emmanuella Edoka grabbed 12 rebounds. Nine of the Saints scored in the contest.
Aryn McClure and Carly Fabbri led Quinnipiac (7-5, 1-0 MAAC) with 13 points a piece. Jen Fay added 11 points off of 4-5 shooting from the field and 3-4 from behind the arc.
After a slow start with Quinnipiac leading 10-6 the Saints went on a 4-0 run to trail by just two, 12-10. The Saints held Quinnipiac scoreless while taking 13-12 lead, but with just 10 seconds left in the first quarter, Fabbri hit a jumper and the Bobcats led 17-15 after one frame played.
The Saints started off the second quarter strong and a trey from Jones put Siena up 20-19 with just over seven minutes left in the frame. The Bobcats took control and held the Saints scoreless as they racked up 13 points for a 32-20 lead heading into the locker room.
Siena came out fighting in the third frame and brough the Bobcats lead down to just seven after a three-point play by Scarbrough, 39-32. Fay added eight of her 11 points in the third frame alone and kept the Bobcats ahead pushing the lead to as many as 15. While the Saints outscored Quinnipiac 18-17 in the quarter, the Bobcats led 49-38 with 10 minutes to play.
The Bobcats started the final quarter on a 13-4 run to lead 62-42. Scarbrough scored six of her 15 points in the fourth quarter with two coming off free-throws. Quinnipiac closed out the league opener with a 68-54 victory.
The Saints travel to Lawrenceville, New Jersey to take on Rider on Saturday, December 30 to end their three-game road trip. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
