PISCATAWAY, NJ - Siena Women’s Basketball dropped a tough non-conference contest at Rutgers 59-47. The Saints held the Scarlet Knights to their second fewest amount of points scored in a contest this season.
Kollyns Scarbrough led Siena (3-4) with 10 points off of 50% (3-6) shooting from the field. Anna Lundquist came off the bench and added eight, while Karolina Severova, Joella Gibson and Aaliyah Jones all tallied six points a piece for the Saints.
Tyler Scaife, who has scored 20 or more points in four games this season, led Rutgers (7-2) with 18. Ciani Cryor added 10 off the bench for the Scarlet Knights.
Rutgers started off quick and fast and scored the first seven points of the game before Siena was able to respond. The Scarlet Knights then went on another 7-0 run and led 16-4. To end the quarter, Rutgers made five of the seven final field goals and led 20-7.
Deja Rawls completed a three-point play and put the Saints behind just 22-10 early in the second frame. After that, Siena went on a 6-0 run to trail 25-19. Anna Lundquist knocked down back-to-back treys and Siena drew the game to within five, 27-22. However, the Scarlet Knights would end the second quarter on a 10-0 run and lead 37-22 heading into halftime.
Coming out of the locker room, Rutgers continued their run by just one basket before the Saints ended the Scarlet Knights streak. Halfway through the frame, Siena drained three of their three field goals and trailed 44-29. Siena outscored the Scarlet Knights by one, but Rutgers held onto a 47-33 lead.
Just like the third quarter, Siena outscored the Scarlet Knights 14-12 in the fourth frame. Rutgers used a 7-0 run to push their lead 54-35, but Siena ended the quarter on an 8-0 run but fell to Big Ten contender Rutgers 59-47.
Siena completes their three-game road trip when they take on Hofstra on Monday, December 4. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
